It is early evening near London Bridge on the north bank of the River Thames, looking south west. In the mid distance a steamer is being swung to her moorings, her bows facing down river into the tide. A small iron square rigger lies closer, a spritsail barge in the foreground, while lightermen get a lift ashore on a small craft tug.
