STILL-LIFE PAINTINGS
NADINE LUNDAHL
Born 1958
"Golden Pears With an Earthenware Bowl"
Of Finnish-Belgian extraction, Nadine Lundahl was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1958, a descendant of the famous Finnish landscape and figure painter, Helga Amelie Lundahl (1850-1914).
As a student at the Royal Academy of Arts in Antwerp, she trained in the art of still-life painting, studying the exacting techniques of the great Dutch and Flemish masters of the seventeenth century, for which that vibrant city has been so justly famous.
From her formative years, and due to her parents’ lifelong profession as antique dealers, who travelled internationally in search of the most unusual and rarest items, she was naturally immersed in and exposed to all manner of fascinating antiques, collectibles and curios. These would prove irresistible subjects with which to inspire and further her prodigious creative talents.
Nadine also studied under and worked together with the hugely gifted and idiosyncratic Belgian still-life painter, Willem Dolphyn (1935-2016). Born in Antwerp, he was the son of Victor Dolphyn, also a painter and a Professor at the Royal Academy in Antwerp.
Creating his first painting at the age of 4, Willem became at 17 the youngest student ever to enter the National Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp, and he was to become a major influence on Nadine’s artistic direction as well as helping to nourish her enormous talent for the most intrinsically observed still-lifes.
Working on a relatively small and tight scale, Nadine has developed her subject matter using traditional, centuries-old oil painting techniques, her creations applied to specially prepared panels. She is very careful to select objects that relate together in form, texture and colour, in order to create the most beautiful artworks.
Nadine Lundahl is a truly international artist, whose works grace many private art collections and institutions.
She has had sell-out solo exhibitions and received widespread critical acclaim, and her exhibition venues have included the following:
